‘Dash’ began with a gift I made for my father some years ago. Despite having a jeweller for a wife and jeweller for a son, he’s not a big jewellery person, but I felt inspired to make him a pin loosely based on the beautiful, artificial flies that he and I used to make for trout fishing during my childhood. I’m delighted because he wears his brooch all the time, transferring it from one shirt to the next. ‘Dash’ is also reminiscent of another fishing reference - the rare and fleeting moment when a kingfisher flies past in a flash of blue.
The composition of these earrings is achieved through carefully positioning of the holes so they angle inwards to compliment the jaw line. The layers are not secured together but swing beautifully at different rates.
