Vortice II

2019
Necklace. Oxidised silver, 18ct gold, diamonds (0.9ct), silicone, steel, magnets.

Vortice II represents a pair of wings, gently encircling the neck. They’re the wings of a guardian or an angel — a protective presence, shielding the wearer from harm. To me, they symbolise freedom, love, and safety. The V shape is also a reference to the flight formation of migrating birds. As each bird beats its wings, it creates vortices of air that help lift the bird behind — a quiet act of support in motion.

The piece was exhibited by Elisabetta Cipriani Gallery at PAD London during Frieze Art Fair 2022, where it shared a cabinet with jewellery by Anish Kapoor. Later that year, it was chosen by jewellery historian and writer Milena Lazazzera as the main image for her New York Times article on silver jewellery (18th November 2022). The necklace was sold by Elisabetta Cipriani at Design Miami the same month.
