Ray Fin

2019
Necklace. Silver, silicone, magnets, 18ct gold, diamonds

I’ve been fascinated by fish since I was a small boy — the shapes of their fins, their astonishing colours, the pattern of their scales and the way they move. There’s something especially beautiful about the wave-like motion of a ray. I wanted to capture that fluidity in a piece of jewellery.

That idea became a series of necklaces, each one shaped and articulated to echo the fin of a ray in motion. Every piece in the series is unique — a one-off variation exploring form, flow, and rhythm in a slightly different way.

I love how light glides across the contours of these pieces — always shifting, never still. The first version included diamonds, and a later piece featured gold drops that accentuate the radial bone structure of a ray’s wing. But my personal favourites are the simplest ones — unembellished, quiet, and full of movement.
