Pagoda II is the second in a series of two necklaces (so far) inspired in part by the sweeping curves of a pagoda parasol. After a period of focusing on monochromatic pieces made primarily from silver, the Pagoda necklaces marked a returned to anodised aluminium — and with it, the freedom to create colourful works on a larger scale. Its overlapping metal plates remind me of scales, feathers, or petals — forms I see as some of nature’s most spectacular displays of movement, shape, and colour.

Below are some beautiful images captured by my long time collaborator Chris Bulezuik and modelled by Jasmine Chiu. Pagoda II later became the subject of a short film featuring dancer Missy Fatale in my second collaboration with filmmaker Matt West, also below.

In November 2021 The Pagoda II necklace featured in Force of Nature at Elisabetta Cipriani Gallery, London, curated by Melanie Grant. It subsequently appeared along side the Lacewing as part of {Queer}+{Metals} 2022, a Craftspace exhibition co-curated by Dauvit Alexander and Deirdre Figueiredo in collaboration with Rebekah Frank.

In 2024 Hay Castle produced an exhibition about the life of April Ashley, a prominent transgender actress, author and model who spent a portion of her life living in Hay. Ashley loved bold, colourful jewellery. Pagoda II and the Lacewing were exhibited along side works by other artists including Andrew Logan.
