Jewellery : Wearable Glass

Exploring form through hot glass

In early 2017, I took part in a collaborative project at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland, in association with Ruthin Craft Centre. Eight jewellers were paired with four resident artists to create jewellery made from glass — a material I had worked with during my degree at Manchester Metropolitan University.

I had the pleasure of collaborating with James Maskrey, whose mastery of hot glass is widely respected. I became fascinated with how a simple vortex form could occupy and interact with the spaces around the body. Together, we created two dramatic necklaces and a series of bangles and brooches, which became part of a touring exhibition Jewellery : Wearable Glass.

The large blue collar was later acquired by the National Glass Centre for its permanent collection, and an image above was featured in New Glass Review 2018, published by The Corning Museum of Glass.
