The original Verto necklace — my first major piece — was commissioned in 2010 by collector Tuan Lee. The name Vertocomes from Latin, meaning “to change” or “to turn,” which felt fitting for both the form of the piece and the direction it marked in my practice.
At its core is a custom extruded silicone spine — a mechanism I developed myself — which allows the necklace to flex in every direction and twist into a variety of dramatic silhouettes. As the wearer moves, it moves too, responding like a living form.
Verto has since evolved into a series of necklaces. While the basic structure remains constant, the size, colour and materials vary, making each iteration unique.
